Why Doesn’t Success Ever Feel Like Enough?
I don’t want to spend my entire life feeling like I’m in an endless performance review.
While I like to have my sh&t together,
🚫 I do not know everything.
🚫 I am not closed-minded.
🚫 I am not unwilling to grow.
But I REALLY dislike unsolicited advice.
Like most things, this probably stems from my childhood.
I was a solid kid.
I made good choices.
I stayed out of trouble.
I cared deeply about doing the right thing.
I worked hard.
I tried.
Yet, the messaging I often internalized sounded something like:
“You could do better.”
“You should be doing more.”
“You are going to mess up.”
I know those messages came from a place of love - people likely thought they were:
Helping me reach my potential.
Preparing me for life.
Motivating me.
Helping me avoid what they had to learn the hard way.
Regardless, I learned to believe my worth was tied to constant improvement and that shaped me to:
⚡️ Be in constant drive mode
🚀 Be fueled by ambition
😤 Place ridiculous pressure on myself
⏳ Feel that rest means I am falling behind
🪜 Immediately focus on the next thing instead of fully appreciating what I’ve already accomplished
Even after everything I’ve done in my career and personal life, there’s still the underlying feeling that I should be doing more.
And I KNOW I am NOT alone in that.
⁉️ What if life isn’t supposed to feel like an endless attempt to earn your worth?
⁉️ What if accomplishment alone never creates peace?
I don’t want every quiet moment interrupted by guilt.
Or every accomplishment to immediately become insufficient.
That is hard AND important to admit.
This similar topic came up during my conversation with Stephanie McCarty on The F’ing Up Podcast.
We talked about how easy it is for high achievers to become trapped in the belief that our worth is tied to our productivity, achievement, and constantly proving ourselves — even when, from the outside, life looks incredibly successful.
Stephanie shared honestly about ambition, pressure, grief, success, and the disconnect between how things can look externally versus how they actually feel internally.
👇 Do you ever feel like no matter how much you accomplish, it still somehow doesn’t feel like enough?
🎙 If this resonates, I’d love for you to listen to Stephanie’s episode of The F’ing Up Podcast.
